On Sunday June 24th around 10pm Madison Township Medic,
Engine and Battalion 181 were dispatched along with
Columbus Rescue 4 and EMS 14 on an Auto Accident on
State Route 33 westbound at Ebright Road. The arriving
companies discovered a pickup truck on it’s top with the
roof caved in. They could not see into the cab and
there was no response to their calls.
Rescue 4 advised the
dispatcher this would be a “working extrication” and
that a second Rescue, Medic and MedFlight helicopter
would be needed. Engine 181 stretched a handline for
protection of the EMS and Rescue crews and put up
additional on-scene lighting. Battalion 181 arrived and
assumed “Route 33 Command”. Additional equipment
dispatched included Safety Officer 2 and Battalion 6.
EMS 14 suggested a second engine or ladder company be
dispatched to establish a landing zone for the
helicopter.
After Rescue 4 managed to peel back the passengers’
door, both passengers were apparently awaken and managed
to crawl out under their own power. They were
immobilized in place first by the Medic and the second
by the Engine/Rescue. Medic 182 was the second Medic to
arrive but all additional equipment was cancelled.
