Aug. 29, 2005 at approximately 2104 hrs.E181, M182, B181 and R4 were
dispatched to an A/A in the 3400 block of Noe-Bixby Rd. in Madison
Township. Additional calls to the Fire Alarm Office (FAO) by
residents and the police indicated that there were four (4) people
trapped. The FAO dispatched one additional rescue and 3 medics. B181
put Med-Flight on standby. B181 and E181 arrived within 4 minutes
from dispatch, multiple police agencies and a large crowd had
already gathered. We found a Chevy Malibu wrapped around a utility
pole with four teens inside. A fifth victim was already out of the
vehicle and sitting away from the vehicle with a police officer and
neighbors. E181 had a three man crew. They laid a handline and
charged it and put out portable generator lights. The local police,
about 10 total were trying to lend what care they could to the
victims. B181 realizing that we had four trauma patients activated 2
Med-Flight helicopters. Due to limited access for an landing zone, E
23 set a LZ at a shopping center approximately ¼ mile away.
Extrication was complete in about thirty minutes with all victims
enroute to local hospitals within 35 minutes of dispatch. Additional
companies from Whitehall, Violet and Columbus F.D., Madison Twp.,
Groveport, Columbus P.D and the Franklin County Sheriff as well as
Med-Flight assisted.
