Welcome to the Fire Prevention Bureau page. Our goal is to reduce the loss of life and property resulting from unfriendly fires by educating the public about fire safety, seeking compliance to the applicable codes and investigating the causes of all reported unfriendly fires.

   We conduct a variety of public education programs, enforce the fire code, conduct plans review for new construction and remodeling, conduct licensure inspections where required and investigate unfriendly fires.

 New Business & Construction Information

  Are you interested in starting a new business or building a commercial building in the Madison Township Area? Maybe you just want to add on to your existing building? If so you are probably wondering where to start and what you need to do. We would like to help you make the process as smooth as possible.

   There is no straight forward answer to describe what you need to do. The answer varies based on your plans, moving in to an existing building is different than constructing a new building. The best thing you can do is contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at 614-837-7883. We will schedule an appointment with you and provide all of the assistance and direction we can.

   You should also do the same with the building department. They will be able to assist you in determining what their requirements will be.

Underground and Aboveground  Storage Tank Installation & Removal
(UST’s & AST’s)

  Ohio law requires that both underground and aboveground storage tanks be licensed and permitted. The Madison Township Fire Department does not have designated authority for the installation and removal of underground storage tanks (UST’s). If you need to remove or install a UST please contact the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office Bureau of Underground Storage Tanks (BUSTR) at 614-792-7938 for questions or 614-752-7126 for permits and registrations.

Daycare Licensure

  Ohio law requires both commercial and in home daycare facilities as well as foster homes to be licensed. We will be happy to provide the necessary fire inspections. To make the process go smoother please refer to the following information.

   If you have an existing daycare and need a fire inspection to renew your license please contact us at 614-837-7883 after you have received your forms for renewal from the state.

   If you are planning on opening a new daycare please contact us at 614-837-7883 to obtain information and assistance in determining what will be required. We also encourage to review the information provided in the New Business & Construction section.

   If you need a daycare or foster care inspection for your home please contact us at 614-837-7883 to schedule an appointment once you have received your forms.

 

Fire Inspections

  The fire department conducts routine fire inspections. If you have any questions or do not understand anything you have been told you should contact the fire inspector who conducted the fire inspection. The inspector who conducted your inspection will be the person who can best answer your question.
