Battalion Chief Chris Pallos graduated from Groveport-Madison High School in 1971.  He started as a volunteer firefighter in October 1974 and moved to full time in 1977.  Eight years later he was promoted to Lieutenant (1985), five years after that he was promoted to Captain (1990) and three years later to Battalion Chief (1993).  He has attended numerous fire, EMS, hazardous materials classes and incident commands.  He oversaw the MTFD hazardous material foam operations from inception in 1993 through 2015.

Battalion Chief James Looney graduated from Whitehall Yearling High School in 1982 and graduated from The Ohio State University with a BSBA in 1988.  After college, he worked in a small-service business office while earning his fire and emergency medical technician certifications.  He began his career with Madison Township as a part-time firefighter in 1995.  After working his way through paramedic school, he was appointed to full-time status in December 1997.  Battalion Chief Looney was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and Battalion Chief in May of 2018.

Battalion Chief Looney is certified through the Ohio Fire Academy at the Fire Officer II level.  He also maintains certifications as a Fire Safety Inspector, Fire Instructor, and serves as an EMS Continuing Education Instructor.

Battalion Chief Mark Ballenger

Battalion Chief Mark Ballenger graduated from Pickerington High School in 1984.  During his senior year, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he trained as a firefighter.  He remained on active duty until 1993 and ultimately retired from the Ohio Air National Guard in 2015.  After release from active duty, he worked as a firefighter for the Department of Defense at Newark AFB, Oh.  He began his career with Madison Township in 1996 where he has worked as a  Firefighter, Fire Inspector, Investigator, Lieutenant and currently serves as Battalion Chief.  


Battalion Chief Ballenger is certified through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) at the Officer IV Chief Officer level.  He also maintains certifications as Fire Inspector, Instructor, Hazardous Materials / Weapons of Mass Destruction Incident Commander and Rescue Technician.
